Guest Blogger Phil – MORTGAGE THOUGHTS

… at the end of the day there is now choice

Thank you Beverley for the opportunity to write for your blog.

A little bit about me. My name is Phil Rees, I am known as Aussiekiwiphil. I am a mortgage broker.

I started on my mortgage broking journey a few years back when I was living in New Zealand. I’m now a Queenslander.

I am a huge believer in freedom and choice, and wanted to make a significant difference in people’s lives by getting them a better deal with their biggest and sometimes most crippling debt.

There have been several changes over the years. I am sure you remember going into your bank, sitting waiting nervously to meet the bank manager. In many cases, this person was one of the most important people in the community.  He or she could decide your financial future. It did not worry them if you got your mortgage, because they still received their salary. They worked from 8-5 Monday to Friday, and life was great for them.

Now what has happened to banks?  Great managers move on up the corporate ladder; key staff are sales consultants, employed to keep you at their bank forever, charging you fees and interest rates that are not necessarily the best for you. As soon as they show promise they are also moved on up the corporate ladder. The next time you go in for a loan, the process starts again, you feel like you are treated as a number.

So this is where a mortgage broker comes in. We do not get paid until we have found our clients the best deal, this may not mean the lowest rate, some lenders have no fees, some offer reward points, some help those that have made mistakes in the past. At the end of the day there is now choice across a market that had no choice not so long ago.

Can I help you? You can call me to find out on 0404458727.
