Classic Women Editing and Copywriting Services

I am Beverley Streater, a freelance editor and copywriter, assisting writers of fiction and non-fiction manuscripts.

As a proud practitioner of written expression, my passion is to help authors deliver enthralling, entertaining written expression.

I promise to offer a kind and candid solution for your editing and copywriting needs.

What qualifies me to help you with your editing or copywriting?

Years of formal academic study^ offered me the opportunity to research critically and build a broad knowledge base. Applying that knowledge during thirty or so years in the workforce nurtured a range of skills: direct support to older people, people with disabilities and their families; managing service delivery and developing teams; finally providing strategic advice and designed communications for senior personnel.

As a public sector employee, I developed expertise in a range of areas:

  • editing (both structural and copyediting) and copywriting (content, correspondence)
  • complaints management
  • quality assurance
  • customer service, administrative tasks, office management, logistics, leadership, training, and coaching.

During the last five years, I have sharpened my focus to writing and helping other writers, through copywriting and editing. With professional development in the field of editing, I have stepped into the role of freelance editor. Since 2017, I have experience working with authors of both fiction (short stories, poetry, novels) and non-fiction (recipe books, self-development, management) manuscripts, contributing to over a hundred manuscripts in the last five years.

What do I write about?

I relish writing – anything! I love to research a topic, collect different points of view, and summarise what I find. I consider myself a perpetual student. One of my favourite topics is writing about my cohort. That is, women. In particular, women ‘of a certain age’ who often express dismay about becoming invisible, unnoticed, as they age. So in response to this sentiment, I have started to collect some great stories that I hope you’ll enjoy reading.

I also love to write tips and hints for your writing. I hope you enjoy my own story about being an avid reader as a child.

What is my point of difference?

I offer honest and reasoned feedback to authors, gently and constructively. I provide a kind and candid solution for your editing and copywriting needs with explanatory notes about my recommendations. It can be very confronting for an author to open up their work to others, seeking critical feedback and I am deliberately respectful of the process as well as the person.

I believe in the philosophy of ‘giving back’. For instance, I worked pro bono when I edited a compilation of twenty-five biographies in the publication, Eighteen Point Five. The opportunity to work with John Duthie and his international team of writers gave me the avenue to showcase my work; and I believe my experience working with people with disabilities and their extended networks suited me to the task.

I frequently provide feedback and advice to emerging writers regarding their work and their pathway to publishing, and have been a resource to post-secondary students seeking to improve their communication skills.
